Goodyear, as a brand, might be best known for its tires and blimps, but that’s not all the brand does. Firmly planted in the rubber market, Goodyear also makes high-quality shoe soles for brands, including its own line of footwear that can be found at Walmart. What’s most surprising is that Goodyear has a fairly decent-looking pair of hiking boots, and they’re on sale right now for a price that’s almost too good to be true.
The Goodyear Teton Hiking Boot is just $33 right now, marked down from its already extremely reasonable list price of $50. It’s a popular shoe, with more than 1,000 five-star ratings and reviews calling it a “fantastic value” for a pair of hiking shoes that are also “comfortable,” “high quality,” and “rugged.” They’re on sale in all four colors: Wheat , black , navy , and brown , though that one has nearly sold out.

The outsole on these boots is made of thermoplastic rubber with a tire tread-inspired lug—it’s still a Goodyear product, after all. The upper is more standard breathable nylon that covers the high-cut, fully padded shaft and has heel tabs that make it easier to take these off and put them on. The styling is fairly standard hiking boot, except for a tiny Goodyear tag on the outside ankle. We wouldn’t necessarily call these a replacement for boots from core outdoor brands built to ascend Mount Whitney, but it’s clear from the reviews that they’ve delighted many a Walmart shopper.
One wrote that they have “worn a hiking boot every day for the last 30 years” and tried many different brands. The Goodyear Teton is the “best boot I have ever worn,” a bold statement that they go on to back up. “They are comfortable, lightweight, and true to size,” and while “everybody thinks good boots have to be expensive,” they conclude, it’s “not true. It’s the quality, not price.”

Another reviewer says they use these boots to hike in the nearby Blue Ridge mountains all the time. “These are comfortable, wear well, are non-slip on wet rocks, and are great for rock impact.” Where a compromise was made in their mind was with waterproofing. “Their waterproofing is fine,” they wrote, “but I wouldn’t wade through streams with them.” There are plenty of more expensive, non-waterproof hiking boots on the market, so this comes off as more of a plain statement than a criticism.
At $33, these Goodyear Teton Hiking Boots are nearing impulse buy territory, and they’ve already started to sell out; the brown colorway is all but gone. All of which is to say that if you’re interested in a new pair of hiking boots at an inarguably great price, you’d do well to burn rubber and pick up a pair ASAP.
