There was never any doubt that Jonathan Anderson‘s debut at Dior would be memorable — and once again, the shoes are a big part of his design story.
The synergy between Anderson and Nina Christen, design director of shoes for the house, was on full display at the much-buzzed-about Paris Fashion Week show today.

The footwear maintained the out-of-the-box creativity showcased by the two designers when they worked together at Loewe. Christen, who is Chilean-Swiss, was behind Loewe’s balloon-adorned shoe and Comic Foam pump. With a number of luxury fashion houses on her resume, including her own brand Christen, the footwear designer joined Dior after creating some of the Row’s buzziest designs.
At Dior, the designers didn’t shy away from bold footwear statements, but they also kept classic silhouettes in the mix. A standout design was an oversized rounded rosette embellishing several mule heels — the intricately twisted adornment could be seen in a myriad of colors throughout the show.

Another shoe silhouette was one Christen teased on social media ahead of the show — an open-toe, bow-adorned slingback with a geometric toe shape. There were also pointed-toe heels with playful embellishments resembling feathers or bunny ears pointing upward from the vamp. Meanwhile, classic pointed-toe pumps were given extra flair with a back heel cover narrowing into a sharp point.

Plaid material was used on various shoes, including a pastel colorway with purple, green and yellow — and darker, earthier variations of the pattern came up as well.

The brand also presented black-and-white, color-blocked loafers with a rounded gold embellishment on the upper. While that loafer had a more classic construction, things got a bit more unusual with a sleek black dress shoe-loafer look featuring a high vamp and the aforementioned side-pointed toe. With gold letters spelling out Dior on the upper, the enlarged O in the name was open in the middle.
